So they're making a movie based on the Goosebumps novels by R.L. Stine, coming out this October, and I'm super excited about it. I realize that if you're a teenager right now, there's a good chance you've never heard of Goosebumps. If you're sixteen years old today, then they were all written before you were even born. That's just crazy to me.
Goosebumps were YA before YA was a thing. People seem to think Harry Potter was the first series of Young Adult novels. Nope. YA literature has always been around, just in a different section of the library.
So because I'm feeling nostalgic, and I'm reminiscing about what I read when I was in school, I thought I would recommend some YA books from yester years that are still worth reading today. Enjoy!
What a fun post, Steph! I remember binge-reading Sweet Valley High and Judy Blume books. I'd also add all of S.E. Hinton's books, especially The Outsiders, to your list. I have to admit, I was too much of a scaredy-cat for Goosebumps back then. Maybe I'll read them now...
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I definitely loved Sweet Valley High, Baby-Sitters' Club, and Goosebumps. Also, pretty much any book with horses, unicorns, pegasi... :P
ReplyDeleteFunny enough, I remember loving Island of the Blue Dolphins, but I couldn't for the life of me tell you now what it was about, lol.
Also, I read Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants for the first time just a few years ago!
YA is timeless, yo.
All the feels! I dropped by my childhood library a while back and noticed that I was now taller than the bookshelves that once felt so huge. I never got into Goosebumps as a kid, I preferred R.L. Stine's 99 Fear Street books even though they scared me right our of my skin.
