It's so true, isn't it, that many of the best movies are screenplays based on novels? Like the two recent hits The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Silver Linings Playbook. Or (going back a ways) Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. And many, many others.

It seems like Hollywood is sampling from the YA bookshelves quite a bit lately, and we couldn't be more excited about their choices. Here are a few upcoming book-to-movie titles that we can't wait to see:

The Host by Stephenie Meyer - in theaters March 29th

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of human hosts while leaving their bodies intact. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, didn't expect to find its former tenant refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

As Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of Jared, a human who still lives in hiding, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she's never met. Reluctant allies, Wanderer and Melanie set off to search for the man they both love.

Featuring one of the most unusual love triangles in literature, THE HOST is a riveting and unforgettable novel about the persistence of love and the essence of what it means to be human. (from Amazon.com)

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl - in theaters Feb. 13th

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything. (from banesandnoble.com)

Ooh, Beautiful Creatures looks so good in this trailer!

And let's not forget Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion - in theaters tomorrow!!

R is a young man with an existential crisis--he is a zombie. He shuffles through an America destroyed by war, social collapse, and the mindless hunger of his undead comrades, but he craves something more than blood and brains. He can speak just a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. He has no memories, noidentity, and no pulse, but he has dreams.

After experiencing a teenage boy's memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and strangely sweet relationship with the victim's human girlfriend. Julie is a blast of color in the otherwise dreary and gray landscape that surrounds R. His decision to protect her will transform not only R, but his fellow Dead, and perhaps their whole lifeless world.

Scary, funny, and surprisingly poignant, Warm Bodies is about being alive, being dead, and the blurry line in between. (from amazon.com).

I'm excited about Warm Bodies, though I won't see it until I've read the book (I know! I need to get on that.). A little leery about Beautiful Creatures, just because paranormal doesn't always translate well (in my eyes) to the screen. Think about those talking Twilight wolves. Disaster! Plus, I loved that book so I hope it's a good movie.

I haven't read the Beautiful Creatures books but the more I see the trailer, the more interested I am in seeing the film (I'm highly susceptible to advertising). I also am interested in Warm Bodies because Nicholas Hoult is hot ;)

I truly didn't realize just how many films and television shows are actually adaptations until I became entrenched in the publishing world. It starts to feel like Hollywood has no original ideas! (Disclaimer: I know that's not true! I'm just saying, when the balance of what you know shifts that much, it FEELS like that's true.)

Anyway. Perks was such a great film, and I'm dying to see Warm Bodies. Not to mention The Host (!!!!!!!) and the rest of the Hunger Games series.

I'm excited about all these movies, especially The Host and Warm Bodies. Can't wait! I love that we get to see so many YA novels come to life on the big screen.

Oh, and The Fault in Our Stars is supposed to start filming this summer. There's another one to be excited about. :)

Ahhhhhhh! My sister and I still need to watch at least one of those books-to-the big screen movies. She and I are especially excited for Warm Bodies, The Host, and (although it came out a quite a long time ago) Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Great post and thanks for stopping by our blog!

Oh Steph, I didn't even know TFIOS was going to film. How did I not know that?! Can't wait.

It really is fun to see our beloved books take shape on the big screen. Yes, Leslie, you and your sis must go see some!

There's a new movie in production based off of the Signficance Series by Shelly Crane. I am so looking forward to it.

The book series is amazing, Shelly Crane is awesome, and the people that are pushing for the movie are super great!!!
